About
My name is Derrick Vincent Burton and I'm the owner, artist, graphic designer, and illustrator behind Toponaut Designs based in Boise, ID. Toponaut Designs is the result of an over-active imagination and the desire to make art and illustration a key part of my livelihood.
I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho and out here in the Northwest, it doesn't take long to get into the outdoors. When I was young I was into the Boy Scouts and I garnered a respect and a love for the outdoors. To this day I still go camping, hiking, backpacking, river rafting, and fishing as much as I can to observe and gather inspiration from the beauty of the wild country. There isn't much that can beat summiting a 12,000 foot peak that you started hiking up at 6 in the morning to watch a full solar eclipse.

The outdoors however, is not the only place where I pull my inspiration from. Ever since I can remember I have been an avid reader and I still devour at least 1 book a month. I also love movies, comics, animation, and video games and my favorites always include great stories.

And so, I strive to make art and design that tell stories, or at least part of one, amongst nature and our interaction with it. These stories can range from the final resting place for a red tractor on a hill amongst the aspen trees, or a young fox, sleeping fitfully amongst fireflies and grasses. From a space man resting on his helmet looking contemplatively back to the world he left behind, to creatures completely invented in the recesses of my mind.
